Natural gas

The gas in the Swedish core grid consists of a mixture of natural gas and biogas. The natural gas used in Sweden comes via a pipeline from Denmark.

Natural gas is of fossil origin, consists primarily of methane and is colourless, non-toxic and odourless. The gas is transported to Sweden via an underground pipeline from Dragør in Denmark.

A large proportion of the natural gas used in Sweden goes to industry. The gas is also used at the highly efficient (CHP) plants in Gothenburg and Malmö that generate electricity and heat.

Nordion Energi is tasked with having an open system for anyone who wants to produce or trade gas, and strives to increase the proportion of biogas in our existing systems.
